MELO'S PIZZA & PASTA
MELO’S FLAGSHIP LOCATION GETS A MAKEOVER
Melo's flagship location was getting a makeover and we couldn't be more excited to help. In order to be successful we would need to meet strict deadlines and overcome unique challenges during installation. We were up for the challenge!
Project: Melo's Pizza & Pasta
Segment: Food Service
Location: Pleasant Hill, CA
Products: USF Contract Sawtooth Oak & Karndean Opus Stone
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS:
Installed flooring on a tight timeline to ensure the restaurant could open for business during the busiest times
Completed a phased install that included the dining area, hallways and entrance
Worked in conjunction with other trades (furniture installers, painters, etc) to ensure each aspect of the job was completed at the right time and on time.
PROJECT BACKGROUND:
Carpet tile and VCT just weren't the right look for their flagship location. Now with 4 locations in the bay area, they wanted to make this one special. It wasn't just about flooring either. There were new booths being installed, new furniture, wainscoting installation and murals being painted with painters directly from Italy. No kidding :)
Located in Pleasant Hill, Melo's Pizza and Pasta has set the standard for New York style pizza and Italian regional pasta in the greater East Bay area for over 40 years. Today, Melo’s consistently strives to offer a menu that is fresh, healthy, and updated in a setting that is appropriate for families, romantic dates, and business occasions. Over the decades, Melo’s has stayed true to its roots by staying Passionately Italian!
Solution: Create a phase plan
We broke the restaurant into sections and coordinated the work with other trades. We needed to complete each phase within the 3 nights that they were closed to allow them to reopen during the busy times.
Challenge: Phased Job
We needed to break the project into phases to ensure the restaurant could open on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the remodel. These are their busiest days of the week.
Solution: Accurate Labor Estimates
With all the extra prep, it was necessary to plan how much labor was needed each day. Accurately planning how much labor was needed allowed us to finish each phase on time.
Challenge: Labor Intensive
The restaurant had booths that were being refinished. With the existing bolts on the floor, it was necessary that we installed the flooring precisely around each of the bolts before the booths were put back into place.
Solution: Communication
Our Project Manager Jim was on the job and in contact multiple times daily to ensure there was effective communication between the trades.
Challenge: Multiple Trades on site Together
We weren't the only contractor on the job. There were new booths being installed, new wainscoting and a full paint job. We needed to ensure our timing was perfect.
Environmental Efforts
US Floors LVT are made from recycled content, rapidly renewable materials and is Greenguard Gold Certified for low emissi
Installation
Every install has a set of challenges and this job was no different. Each of the booths had exposed bolts that needed to remain in place for the newly finished booths to be reinstalled.
We needed to, with precision, cut around them all with the greatest of detail. Living up to our name is very important and finding solutions to problems is part of our company culture.
RESULTS
Does it get any better than working on a project where the people and atmosphere are as great as the food? The family at Melo's were a pleasure to work and we couldn't be more proud of the final results.
